Homesnap Safety Timer
September is Agent Safety Month, a great time to remind yourself to be vigilant and cautious in how you conduct business when dealing with the outside world. Your safety is our priority as well. It’s inevitable in this industry that agents will at some point attend a meeting with strangers, show homes alone, or even host open houses alone. As your MLS, REIN provides tools to help keep you safe at all times, and we strongly encourage you to take advantage of these products.
One available feature is Homesnap Pro’s Safety Timer. It’s great for times when you are alone at an open house or a showing. When you are logged into the Homesnap Pro app, the safety timer will appear on all on- and off-market properties when you are within at least 2000 feet of the property. It is based on your GPS location, so you must remember to have your Location Services turned on. The timer can be set for up to 24 hours or more if needed. Once the timer runs out, a text message is sent to your specified emergency contacts. This message will text the location of where you started the timer and advises your emergency contact to contact you or 911 because you may be in distress. There is also a Distress Alert button, which you can push at any time you feel uncomfortable or threatened; using the distress alert sends this same message to your emergency contact immediately, instead of waiting for the timer to count down. You can list up to five emergency contacts to receive your text alerts. No need to worry about your battery life either. The timer will continue running even if you lose power on your device.
Now, let’s activate it on your device!
- Step 1: Turn on Location Services on your device to allow Homesnap to access your location.
- Step 2: Open the Homesnap Pro app and find/select the property you are showing. Locate the Stay Safe At Showings section.
- Step 3: Tap the Start a Safety Timer button and choose the duration of the timer.
- Step 4: Add your emergency contacts and start the timer.
- Step 5: To end the timer select Stop Timer.
Note: Once the timer has been started, you can add 10-minute increments, use the Distress Alert button, or stop the timer.
We hope you see the value in using this important tool through Homesnap. Protect yourself at all times and stay safe.
